Hello everyone,
my name is Jin and I am working on a TV debate programme which will be broadcasted within a month. The topic I am currently working on is Homosexuality in Brit Asians. This is an issue which is still considered taboo and I strongly believe that we all should join forces to help to fight the prejudices and to raise the awareness in our communities.
I am using this forum trying to find persons who would be willing to provide me with an interview and to share their experience in aim to support equality between all of us.
Please, in case of interest, contact me on jin.poulova@gmail.com.
Thanking you.
Best wishes Jin

Has your programme already been broadcast? I commend you for your efforts but the problem of making a programme about such issues is that it's still so much of a taboo to be a LGBT Sikh. To then talk about it on national TV is perhaps a little too soon for some people here.

To be honest i think your wasting your time. Straight Sikhs think its a joke and take the piss. I can see what you trying to do but are you really doing it for the sake of your career because it will set of some fireworks or is it because you geniuinely care (i doubt very much).
I am out about my sexuality but I dont think it needs to be broadcasted so my Gran sees it. lol. she would never approve. you got to think only some sikhs are learning to accept it and the old generation will never. Simple as.
our generation is very skeptical and critical.
but seriously, who are you doing this for?

maybe the classical approach it the best way to deal with this-
through education- and not just by opinions, and experiances.
giving the facts, that some sikhs will be like this, and pointing the finger is not a good idea
i do know some sikhs who are very serious about life and have sucessful careers and are bi sexual, or homosexual and very confident
it is unlikley that normal sikhs will have anythink bad to say about this topic, however there may be resentment from khalistanis, who have an interest in politics, and apleasing other communities for support for sikh freedom,
Khalistanis may not be taken seriously if other communities mock them with refferance to being homosexual, particularly keshdhari sikhs
living in the uk- it would be very hard for anyone to attack homosexual sikhs, given that there are a lot of gay clubs and that the social scene is very active.
regarldess who whats sikhs do , there should be unity amonst all sikhs, which should be promoted
the law currently states sikhs and jews are a protected group, maybe this is a good way to have some form of legal protection if you want to air your views.
