Hi there,
I am a 3rd year De Montfort University student on the Youth and
Community Development BA course.
I am currently undergoing my third year placement in the LGBT Centre in Leicester and alongside this I have decided to focus my dissertation on the life experiences of Hindu and Sikh gay men living in Britain focussing on the aspects of family honour and duty.
In order to capture the personal experiences of this hard to reach group I am hoping to interview 8 men between the age of 18 - 25 (however this age range may widen depending on the number of volunteers) from Sikh and Hindu backgrounds.
Although this sounds extremely daunting for anybody, all information provided by participants will be extremely confidential and anonymous - no names will be mentioned at all.
The research will hopefully help me to reach out to the older and more traditional members of the indian community to build bridges, raise awareness and promote acceptance of the LGBT society within the indian community.
I came across this website and was hoping that somebody may be able to help me in terms of literature/resources to use through out the study or even may be able to point me in the direction of any possible participants.
It is also worth noting that I am an extremely open-minded, non-judgemental individual who is from a Sikh background and currently working towards establishing a solid, BME LGBT social support group in Leicester's LGBT Centre.
My degree will allow me to qualify as a Youth and Community Development practitioner, meaning that there are no doubts about my sensitivity towards the subject and I maintain a professional manner inluding ensuring anti-oppressive and anti-discriminatory practice at all times.
I hope that I will receive a positive response.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and feel free to contact me for further information by messaging me on this website or
via email on vanyshasahota@hotmail.com.
