there seems to be an opinion that being a sikh means to practice the religion in a similar fashion to islam- to do prayer at the right times.
this concept does not exist in sikhism,
sikhs are either seen as being active sikhs or as non sikh.
the ideall sikhs means to being a saint soldier-
to first be a saint- to regard all of man kind as 1 hunam race regardless of race religion and gender etc.. any demographic.
then to be a soldier- to protect yourself emotionally, mentally and physically and to protect the saintly ideals.
medidation will help control and prepare the mind for this task, hence the reason why sikhs pray, to understand the words.
sikhsism is not a hippy religion-
if you get a warm fuzzy feeling and feel lovey dovey when thinking about sikhism this is wrong, as sikhsim states that this world is a cold and harsh world, and everyone is out to get you unless you protect yourself and control your mind and show intelligence.
this is stated simply and directly, with out the need for deep contemplation.
simply praying, and hoping to get a blessing by god, and practising sikhism is considered a ritual.
sikhims rejects ritualism.
