Dear All,
Sarbat.Net has been asked to run a workshop at a major inter-faith conference on religion, sexuality and human rights which will take place in May 2009 in London.
The workshop will last approximately 90 minutes and can be on any subject which we feel is pertinent to the concerns of LGBT Sikhs. We are looking for volunteers who are willing to give their time in helping to develop the workshop. If you are interested in being involved, please email info@sarbat.net or post a reply to this message.
The conference will give us the opportunity as a group to raise the profile of LGBT Sikhs, and the issues faced within the mainstream Sikh community, in a safe and confidential environment. The more people who can help out in this workshop, the better, and if you have any concerns about helping out at such an event, please email me.
I look forward to hearing from you very soon.
Kind regards,
Jay Singh, Moderator.

hey jay i would love to come along but scared of getting away from the house - will try to think of something and will let u know. If u don't mind me asking how do you find it as a gay sardar living in this society. My parents will never accept me. I have a long dhari and amrit shakiya which makes it even harder. But i'm happy this way and just want to make some friends. Baljeevan

Hi Gandalf's Beard. The conference is due to take place in 3 weeks time. The title for the workshop is 'View All Mankind as One - Sexuality and Equality within Sikhism', and I hope to have the slides from the workshop posted on to Sarbat.Net once the conference has taken place. The conference details can be found at www.lgcm.org.uk/fhthrconference2009/It would be great if people could turn up to the event and support Sarbat.Net in its efforts. Jay Singh Moderator

Dear Jay, Param etc, Greetings to you all. I am most encouraged by your work and passion for an inclusive Sikh faith group for LGBT people in the UK. This is Rev Jide Macaulay, we met very briefly at the LGBT faith conference on the 16th May 09 organised by LGCM. I was unable to attend your workshop, there were too many running at the same time. I trust you had good feedback from your session. I am very keen in meeting with you both so we can work together on matters of interfaith that continues to raise my interest for our community. Also please keep me posted on your next meeting date. I can be reached on revjide@yahoo.com and my direct phone number is 07903767972. You can find out more about my work here revrowlandjidemacaulay.blogspot.com/We also run a video blog here www.youtube.com/HouseOfRainbowDiscussion Forum can be found at spiritualityandsexuality.ning.com/Be blessed Rev Jide

Hi Samosa.
The workshop went really well. It was highly interactive, and well received last weekend. The conference itself had about 200 delegates from all over the UK, including a government minister who was talking about the Equality Bill that is currently going through Parliament.
Sarbat had a Powerpoint presentation that looked at the issues of sexuality and human rights in the context of Sikhism, and hopefully that should be put on the website in the next month. There will also be a short article on the conference in due course.

Hey samosa,
As Jay pointed out it was great! I was inspired by the workshop. I didn't know anyone there but I really wanted to attend and since the conference was held within walking distance from my flat I made my way down. Jay & Param's presentation was fun, interesting and highlighted Sikhisms indirect views regarding sexuality. Everyone who participated seemed genuinely inquisitive and interested in learning more about Sikhism. There where all kinds of people there from different ages, religions and backgrounds. I look forward to building up our Sikh LGBT community =)
