Guru Fateh,
PTT,
All living beings are programmed by nature to have pleasurable feeling for eating and sex, if living beings got no pleasure out of eating and sex, survival will be a real problem. Most primate females have a very visible estrus to let others know that she is ready and has the greatest chance of conceiving during that period and will not entertain sex before or after. This works well as long as males and females stay in a limited territory. However, as human beings evolved and became hunter gatherers men potentially could be gone for a long time or just wander away. Therefore human females evolved to be sexually receptive all the time. That way they could keep their male close together. As monogamous relationships evolved visible signs of estrus became redundant. Sex for human beings became more than just a means of procreation. No matter what any religion says sex is a source of enjoyment, relaxation and expression of love between two individuals. And has been accepted as such in a modern society. Any religion can say what ever they want, the fact is not going to change. By the way we are also programmed to like our young. There is hardly a person that will not smile at a baby. What are Sikhs to do after they have had a couple of kids, renounce sex? because the objective of procreation has been fulfilled. And if you think hidebound Sikhs do not have sex, you have another thought coming.
The word kaam means desire and not necessarily just sexual desire. Kaamdhenu is a mythical cow that can grant any wish, a derivative of kaam is kaamna and that is just desire, kaamna desire, any desire including sexual. Kaam and kaamna do not describe the intensity of desire. in most cases these words are actually benign and are not classified as extreme or excessive. In Gurbani there are numerous instances where God is the supreme lord and the disciple is invariably described as kaaman which means a woman desiring her lord.
