Dear friends, I am a freelance journalist in London and I write for the Al Jazeera website. I am putting together an article about the issue of how forced marriage (and honour-based abuse related to this) affects men, and I have spoken with a number of organisations that try to help. I am aware that gay men are, in particular, vulnerable in this regard. Please can you help? In order to provide a meaningful perspective on this issue, I need to speak to individuals who have been victims of forced marriages or pressures to marry. Would you be prepared to tell me your stories in this regard? An article of this kind will only be possible if we can focus on the human stories behind this problem. If requested, I would ensure strict anonymity for anyone prepared to talk to me about their experience. I hope you can help. Publicity of the kind that can be generated through Al Jazeera will be very informative and reassuring for individuals who are being, or have been, forced into a marriage and can point them to the help that is available for them out there. Contact me in confidence at: firstname.lastname@example.org or on 07947 257254. I will arrange to call you and we can talk.
