Hey guys, I'm a gay sikh from punjab belonging to a really conservative family(duh...). My parents are deeply religious. I'm planning to come out to them on my coming birthday (aug 3). Any suggestions about how to approach them?? And pls don't suggest like- "make them sit and then tell". I need a more easy way for my approach. Thank you.

Hey Simran, I got to say... there is no "easy way" to tell your parents your gay!! There are some good leaflets on sarbat.net... maybe that could help you explain things to your parents and help them understand. It may take time for them to understand but you have to be persistent and do not back down!! I would advise you not to tell them on your birthday because you may not get any presents... lol x

Lol i don't want one. All i want is their acceptance. At first, i thought about coming out to my elder brother first, but we are not close enough to each other. He spent all of his teen years away from home in a boarding school, so, we never get to talk much with each other. So i gave up on this idea. Anyways thanks for the comments guys. :-)

Well...then i guess its good but the problem with indian families is that you can't discuss such topics within families. We have a mentality resembling the people of 17 th century england and thats really sickening :-(

Congratulations on wanting to come out. I wish you well. Check out this link. It's not bad. It's not Sikh centred but good nonetheless.
Make a plan. Have a place to go to if you need to for a bit after. These things take a bit of time to digest. Unfortunately, we have to educate them about this.
I think my parents took about 18 months to work it out and up to then it was quite hard. It's best not to come out for their acceptance though of course I understand that we all want some of that acceptance. Instead, accept yourself fully and some! And come out for your authenticity sake, where you share some important information about who you are with people who are important to you. Don't open yourself up for their approval coz the you might not get it!
With best warm wishes of love - X

hello,my friend.plz allow me to say that it is not very good to come out as u are in india... u have to marry under the force of parents?if so,and u dont wanna cheat your potential and wanna to be good guy, come out. if u wanna live a proper life, boring and surpressed ,dont come out....the best solution is to live in the west...plz consider my suggestion

well... thank you guys, for your opinions, they mean a lot to me :-) So, i've this plan to come out to my parents. I've prepared a document on my notebook pc and I've written all my thoughts about me being gay and all that stuff. I'm planning to copy it to my dad's laptop and just make him read it. I'm just waiting for a perfect moment to do the task. :-)
