that is right! HIJRAS it is very likley you have seen them, and that your parents and the gurdwara know about them, and they are very much apart of indian culture. they are a poor cult travellig the lands making money by blessing births and marriages, across india, including punjab and claim to have mystical powers to fool the vunerable. india has provisions to include a 3 gender- this gender being castrated males known as eunuch and including hermaphrodite (born with both male and female sex organs)- or HIJRA , KHUSRA, in indian languages interestingly they are males who become female , and not the other way around. m2f transgendered. for more info see en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hijra_%28South_Asia%29it seems hinduism discusses homosexuality, and states that it brings people closer to god. sikhs are not hindus, and do not come from hindu tradition, hijras are normally hindus, and the hindu punjabis worship the goddess Bahuchara Mata. some sources state they are homosexual, or lesbian, and since they have been apart of indian culture for so long, , referance to hijras might work well, and help in translation of sexuality to indian sikhs in discussion. comments - im sure sikhs will take a sophisticated approach to sexuality, and not a millitant or hippy approach to it. -- research into homosexuality is still ongoing, and not very much is known

...Khusreh are scary (ones in india). They come to your house and start asking for money and take gold from you. If you dont give them what they want they curse you.

It's an odd juxtaposition that hijras are both seen as being good luck and excluded from integrating fully in society. Pretty much forced to isolate themselves from their families and become beggars or prostitutes.
In response to Jazzy, begging in order to survive doesn't make them 'scary'. And 'cursing' has no power.
